MANIFESTO, MANIFIESTA
My very first post in this blog was about my Filmmaker-in-Residence Manifesto.
But the manifesto idea is actually on old hat-trick I learned from my SIB co-director Peter Wintonick, with whom i just ate grilled calamari two nights ago. Over squid, he showed me his latest “manifiesta” just published in POV, the fantastic Canadian mag for doc-lovers.
Pete’s roundup is a solid list of credos to consider: 1. honour what originally inspired you, 2. study film history and adopt cinematic mentors, 3. documentary is an ethical enterprise, 4. documentary means media literacy, 5. life is politics, 6. documentaries can change the world, 7. create the future. Along the way, he quotes Gandhi, Picasso, Herzog, Aristotle and Don Quixote among others.

My favorite pic of win, taken by an 8-year old in a small village in central Mindanao, Philippines back in 2001, during our shoot.
